Hikvision DS-7608NI-K1/8P(C) is a modern 8-channel IP recorder, recording image from IP cameras with a resolution of 8 MP. It has a built-in 8-port PoE switch for direct connection and supplying of IP cameras. It is equipped with parallel HDMI/VGA outputs that display the same image. 1 SATA port enable connection of hard drives with a capacity of up to 8 TB. If the memory is full, automatic overwriting is triggered to prevent the loss of the latest data. The built-in USB ports allow you to connect a USB flash drive or external disk and copy specific fragments to external data carriers.
The DVR supports alarms for VCA events detection (crossing virtual line, intrusion area, entering/exiting the area, loss of focus, etc.) sent by the camera. To use this functionality, the camera must support the VCA alarm in question. An application example would be a virtual line with a specified direction of trespass in one direction. If the crossing criteria in a given direction are met, it can trigger an alarm output, send an e-mail, notify a monitoring center, etc. depending on the configuration. Extensive analytic functions allow for more advanced projects, quick searches for events of interest, and smart recording that saves hard drive space.
IP CCTV systems based on Hikvision IP cameras and NVRs can be configured for continuous recording with special parameters in the case of specific events. Each channel can be configured individually in this aspect. It is possible to increase the frame and bit rates, independently of the continuous recording settings. After the occurrence of an event (motion detection, camera tampering etc), the NVR automatically switches to the event-recording mode (usually with higher parameters). During the rest of the time the recording is carried out in the continuous mode. The increased parameters just before and after the event allow to play back every second of the period with high detail and smoothness, while the recordings between events may have a much lower performance, taking significantly less space on the storage media.

Compression is a very important parameter proving the device advancement. The better the compression, the lower the bandwidth requirement with the same subjective quality. H.265 (HEVC - High Efficiency Video Coding) is currently the most efficient compression method. Compared to its predecessor (H.264), it reduces the data stream and the demand for disk capacity by half. Therefore, hard drives with a halved capacity can be used, or recordings can be stored for twice as long. Its improved version H.265+ has been optimized for use in CCTV monitoring systems. They allow for further reduction of data streams.
H.265/H.265+ - higher compression ratios with preserving video quality provided by H.264
iVMS-4200 is client software dedicated to the management and supervision of Hikvision security systems, such as DVRs (IP, TurboHD), video intercoms, access control, set-top boxes, etc. The software allows you to easily and conveniently monitor all systems by offering viewing from IP cameras, remote playback of recordings, remote configuration, handling of alarm events, two-way audio transmission, e-map support, recording to a HDD and many more.

Hikvision devices can be operated via mobile phones with Android or iOS using the dedicated Hik-Connect mobile application. It can be used for remote live viewing from DVRs, NVRs, IP cameras, video intercoms over the WiFi, 2G or 3G and to view saved recordings. Operating video intercoms with the application provides also remote opening of the electric strike, receiving notifications and transferring calls from the entrance panel to the phone in the absence of the subscriber. The application supports connectivity over IP and a P2P cloud. Hik-Connect is also the name of the cloud service that provides access to devices in the absence of an external IP address.
Our library provides an overview of applications dedicated for installers and users of monitoring systems based on Hikvision devices.
The main window of the SADP software
SADP (Search Active Device Protocol) is a free, easy-to-use utility designed to search for Hikvision IP cameras and DVRs/NVRs in the local network. The network device search tool can also be used to modify device network parameters, e.g. to change or recover default passwords. Detailed information on the software, its use and password recovery (par. 8) can be found in the following article: SADP application - LAN tool for organizing CCTV systems based on Hikvision devices.
